Is the word "Gadara", that is found in the Iberian peninsula and in the Near East, of Hebrew origin and does it mean "fence", "walled place" or "religious enclosure"?
“Gadar” means “fence” so “Gadara” could conceivably mean any one of the listed proposals. In such cases it is not so much individual words that have Hebrew meanings but rather groups of such words. For instance it is worth while clarifying,
“What other place-names in the region have meanings in Hebrew?”
Is there a pattern to these names?
Do they recall specific areas in the region of Israel?
Is the same pattern found in Israel?
And so on.
